MEAL BUDDY!

Food App Gamification

This project was the final delivery of the gamification subject. The objective of gamification is to add game features to other contexts, in this case a food app.

We added a pet company system (as the hook) to a standard food app. The user fidelization and customization of the app worked around the pet, which is optional but greatly incentivized its use because of the benefits it can bring to the user.

Summary:

Loop:

The user will have the choice to use the intermediate steps (pet) or not and dispense from the benefits that those intermediate steps provided. The user may only want to purchase food (the basic purpose of the app) and not get engaged with the game mechanics.

  • Search: The user searches for a meal to order.

    • Recommend: The pet companion assists on the user’s search by recommending restaurants or dishes he could possibly like based on his preferences (fast search, popularity, quality, price, healthiness, friends network, etc).

  • Choice: Choose a meal (purchase option).

    • Opportunity: The pet companion points out potential discounts and promotions that the user could take to enhance his desired purchase either for free or using Meal Bucks.

  • Order: The user performs the payment with his real currency and consumes the selected discounts and/or promotions.

  • Collect: The user gains the rewards for the purchase he just performed.

    • Win: If a stamp milestone has been hit or the pet companion’s happiness triggers because of the purchase, the user receives appropriate rewards. In the case of these rewards being App upgrades, such as pet cosmetics, it is expected to equip them in the same step or very shortly after.

  • Consume: The order arrives and both the user and the pet companion consume their meal.

    • Review: After ordering from the same restaurant several times, the user is prompted to share his experience online in form of a review using his pet companion as the avatar. Doing so will reward him a stamp from that restaurant. This can be done once per restaurant.

Interactive prototype:

We used figma to make an interactive prototype showing our features.
